VLAN Tagging Support for Basler GigE Cameras#

Basler cameras don't support VLAN tagging as defined in IEEE 802.1Q.

IEEE 802.1Q, often referred to as Dot1q, is the networking standard that supports virtual LANs (VLANs) on an IEEE 802.3 Ethernet network.

Consider the following:

  1. If the VLAN tag is added or removed by the respective switch, then the camera won't notice it.
  2. In the case that the camera shall add a tag, the ace 2 doesn't provide a control to insert such a VLAN tag. Namely, such a case isn't supported.
  3. The case when the camera receives an Ethernet frame with such a VLAN tag, because it was not removed by the switch, is untested. This means that we don't know if the camera will ignore the tag and will process the data or not. But the VLAN tag will definitively not be processed by the camera.

If this is a critical aspect for a project, and the provided associated volume is high enough, it may be worth asking our customization team.
