USB 3 Naming Conventions#

The USB Implementer's Forum (USB-IF) has renamed the USB 3 interface a few times since its inception, and this may lead to some confusion.

The interface which Basler cameras support was originally known as "USB 3.0", but now may also be called "USB 3.1 Gen 1" and "USB 3.2 Gen 1".

As a result, depending on the firmware version of the camera, the pylon USB Configurator tool may display the camera as such:

  • "Is Operating as: USB 3.0 Device"
  • "Is Operating as: USB 3.1 Device"
  • "Is Operating as: USB 3.2 Device"

There is however no physical difference in the interface. The difference is in naming alone. All Basler USB cameras support only SuperSpeed USB with a maximum speed of 5 Gbps.
