Comparing Debayering Arrays in ace and ace 2 Cameras Series#

In the realm of digital imaging, particularly with color cameras, the demosaicing process plays a crucial role in image quality. This process involves interpreting a raw sensor grid overlaid with a color filter array (CFA) to produce full-color images.

The technique and the array size used for demosaicing significantly impact the resultant image and color quality.

The ace series of cameras by Basler features an advanced PGI feature, which enhances the quality of color. A significant aspect of the PGI feature is its debayering process. In the ace series, when PGI is enabled, a 5×5 array is employed for debayering. This larger kernel size allows for more refined color interpolation preventing possible color artefacts.

On the other hand, the ace 2 series, a newer iteration of the ace, utilizes a slightly smaller 4×4 array when debayering with PGI enabled. This change likely reflects a balanced approach, aiming to reduce processing overhead while still capturing high-quality images. The reduction in array size can lead to faster image processing times, which is crucial for applications requiring high-speed imaging.

When you use the camera with a small AOI, a kind of line scan mode, and PGI, this array size needs to be taken in account to get better result.
